Description: Most of the pulpwood harvested for the pulp and paperboard mills of Fraser Companies Limited in Edmundston, N. B. floats down the waterways for part of its way to the mill. A small percentage of logs sink to the bottom of the lakes and rivers. During wintertime, men cut holes through the ice of the Madawaska River and with pike poles and pickaroons "fish" for the sunken logs. Here two men land one log.
